Volunteers in North Devon were thanked for their contribution at an awards event which took place at The Cedars Inn on 7th June to mark the end of Volunteers’ Week 2017 which ran from 1-7 June.

North Devon Voluntary Services (NDVS) hosted the event, which was sponsored by The Cedars Inn, Barnstaple, with over 100 people attending to celebrate the work that our volunteers do in the North Devon district area, and to say thank you to them for all that they do. Councillor Sue Croft, Chairman of North Devon Council presented the nominees with certificates.

The evening started with the wonderful Pathfield School Choir, who sang 2 uplifting songs which set the tone for the rest of the evening.

Chief Officer, Hilary Burr of NDVS said “This was a great opportunity to celebrate the work of all volunteers across North Devon, as well as saying a special ‘thank you’ to the volunteers nominated for an award. The awards reflected the wide range of work which volunteers undertake, and the huge contribution which they make to improving the lives of all of us”

Clare Humphreys, Volunteer Coordinator for NDVS said “To have over 20 organisations represented, with over 70 volunteers nominated, is just amazing. Volunteers are a shining example of how we can all make a difference to individuals and communities every day from improving the environment we live in, spending time with those who may otherwise be lonely and contributing to a range of other essential services and support.”

Peter Elder, General Manager, The Cedars Inn Barnstaple said “The Cedars Inn is very pleased to be linked with NDVS and to be able to sponsor and host the NDVS awards. Volunteers play a vital role here in North Devon and we are happy to be able to recognise local people making such a positive difference to others within our community. It is a great gift to offer your time and talent to make lives of others better. We are especially proud to recognise the commitment of young volunteers who at a young age are already positively impacting on the lives of others.”

Thanks also to the Ultimate Adventure Centre, North Devon Party Celebrations and Sainsbury’s for their support and donations to this event.
